Morphe Fluidity Foundation | Review

I think this might actually be my first make-up review! I was so excited when I heard that Morphe would be launching foundations. I mentioned this product in my January 2019 Beauty Wish List post which I will link here if you wanna check that out. I was very excited about this foundation launch, and I thought it was pretty great when they were launching 60 shades.

I ordered the shade 1.50 from the Morphe website, and it was a pretty good match. I didn’t mind wearing it, but it wasn’t my perfect undertone. Morphe did include sample sizes of other shades, and I actually found a better shade. Apparently, I have an olive undertone because the shade 1.90 has an olive undertone, and it was my perfect match. Usually, I choose neutral undertones in my foundation because I don’t have a cool or warm undertone. Now, I know why. When I received the sample packet, I was able to see the differences in undertones for level 1. I have to admit, there was a decent variety. I was even able to give my mom a few samples to try because there was a shade that matched her undertone.

Here are the two shades side by side. The shade on the left is 1.50, and the one on the right is 1.90. The packaging doesn’t do a very good job showing the shade because I would look at 1.90 and assume it was too dark; however, this one matched me perfectly.

Nowwww, into my review….

I bought this for $18 on the day they launched, which I think was a Thursday. I received it by the following Monday. I have played with it and wore it several times since then. I need to mention that I have normal to dry skin. My skin is mostly normal, but I have dry patches in some areas. I also have extremely acne prone skin, acne, and scarring. I also want to mention that I am not a professional at makeup. I am just a normal person that is probably mediocre at makeup. My skills aren’t great, but I do know how to apply my makeup so that it looks good (most of the time, lol).

The application was fine. I didn’t have any problems with that. I tried the foundation with a brush and a sponge. I found that I liked the finish better with a sponge because it didn’t cling to my dry patches as much. The first time I used this I used my Two-Faced hangover primer, and my dry patches looked gross. The second time I tried it I used that primer on one side of my face and my Cover FX on the other side. Still looked gross. The next time I exfoliated the shit out of my face. I used a hydrating mask, and my drunk elephant moisturizer that makes my skill feel so soft and hydrated. After all that work, my face still looked dry. BTW, I used several different setting sprays to try and make this work. Nothing helped. Not even the Mac Fix+ which fixes everything.

Okay, Warning! Here are some photos and close ups so you can see what I mean. In this picture, it doesn’t look so bad. There are no filters on this picture, and the only thing I used was the flash. It doesn’t look too bad at first glance, right? However, check out my nose… kinda looks like a crusty mess. This was 10 minutes after I finished my makeup. My forehead and chin look very dry. Despite this foundation literally sucking the life and moisture out of my face, it wasn’t uncomfortable. I guess it has that going for it. Anyway… Still don’t see the issues?

Okay, let’s go in a little closer.

This photo was taken in my car, so you guys are seeing the foundation in natural light. Again, I used a hydrating serum and my drunk elephant moisturizer. Still gross. I honestly can’t believe I went shopping with my face looking like this. My nose, again, looks gross. The texture on my cheeks are extremely accentuated. It looked very heavy and very cakey that day. I didn’t use any other new products, so I know that it was the foundation making me look gross. Again, Mac Fix+ couldn’t make me look better lol.

Need more proof? Okay, let’s get verrrrryyy up close and personal.

Please ignore the mustache and unibrow.. It’s been a minute, lol. Anyway, The texture around my mouth is emphasized, my nose looks gross, and my pores are deeper than a volcano. And I don’t even have issues with large pores. I forgot to mention that. I think that is enough of my ranting about how dry this made me look. Let’s talk about the other issues.

I want to say that this claims to be full-coverage. I can say that it is, but I still had some of my acne scars showing, so I had to build it up to cover those. Another claim is that it’s transfer proof. I would say that it is for the first hour or so. After my natural oils came through, it would transfer.

I would say that people with dry skin should avoid this because it is so matte and drying. I’m not sure how it would be for people with oily skin because it did begin to transfer when my natural oils came through. I tried so hard to make this foundation work, but I couldn’t. I will say that I have one more idea to try and see if it will work. I have heard to putting an oil in this would help, but I’m hesitant to do that because oils break me out. That reminds me, I didn’t have any problem with this breaking me out.

If you wanna give this a try, I’d recommend exfoliating, moisturizing, hydrating, drinking a gallon of water, whatever you need to do to hydrate your skin. If you have tried this foundation, let me know you’re thoughts or if you have any secrets that may help me with it. If you have oily skin, did this work for you? Let me know what you thought! 🙂

Until next timeeee.

Awakened & Betrayed | Ivy Asher

43332867This is the sequel to The Lost and the Chosen, which I also reviewed. If you want to check that review out, click here! After I read the first book in the series, I was hooked. The second book was a very satisfying follow-up to the first.

Goodreads description – My name is Vinna and I am a Sentinel. I’m the last in a line of a hunted, magical race, coveted and killed for our power and abilities. I was hidden and protected, but now that I’ve been found, it’s a race to see who can command and control me.  Joke’s on them, I bow to no one. I need to master my magic, and protect the five guys I’ve marked as my own at all costs. Because the line between friend and foe is dangerously blurry, and I’m collecting enemies like Sentinels collect runes. It’s time to prepare for battle, claim my place, and get ready to fuck up anything or anyone that comes for me and my Chosen.

The more and more I read this series, the more that it exceeds my expectations. Ivy Asher embraces her talent and creates such a unique and amazing world that continues to bring out my envy. I wish that I could live in the world she created. Her characters continue to draw me in and make me have emotions throughout the book. In this book, I laughed. I cried. I was scared. I was angry. I was overwhelmed. I felt all the emotions that Vinna felt because she is such a likable character. Her backstory continues to unravel in this book, and the readers are able to understand her a bit more. I absolutely love that she doesn’t conform to the traditional caster roles that the elders continue to force upon her. She is a badass heroine, and I hate that this series is only going to live through 4 books.

This review is going to be shorter because there isn’t much I can say that you would understand unless you read the first book. So. READ. It. It’s a great read, and I love that it is a different take on the supernatural. This book is a reverse harem, so there is a lot of polygamy – which, as I mentioned in my last review, I was weirded out by at first; however, I am okay with it now and I’m jealous that Vinna gets all these hot guys that love her, lol. I’m a little bitter.

I finished this book in a day. I was stuck in a traffic jam on my way home from work, and there was no movement. I was in a dead stop for over an hour, and I started reading this book. It pulled me in so much that I was kind of disappointed which traffic started moving, and I head to start driving.

READ. THIS. SERIES! I will leave the amazon links below!

SPOILERS!! Beware!

At the end of this book, there is a cliffhanger that makes you ask what the hell is going on.. If Vinna is the last sentinel.. then how is Enoch’s coven getting the runes? Is there another one…? If so, then who is it… I honestly don’t even have any theories at this point.. One thing I am wondering is if Laiken is still alive.. I’m not sure if it was mentioned in the book if Vinna watched her die.. or maybe she became a lamie (vampire)… I’m not sure.. I may need to reread the series and pay attention to the details again. Another thing… I wonder if her dad is still alive..? In the first book, we found out Talon saw her mother die, but what about her dad. Ohhh, that reminds me… Sorick came to see Vinna during the pack run in the second book, and he was marked by Vinna’s mother.. Maybe they had another baby and he/she is a sentinel too. Wouldn’t that be a huge turn of events.. I have no idea, but I am really excited to find out.

If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend it. It’s great, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed especially if you love supernatural/paranormal romance. I had all the feels reading this book, and I don’t know if I can wait until May until the 3rd book. 😦

If you have read this, please share your theories and thoughts with me. I would love to have a discussion about this. If you haven’t read it, let me know if I have changed your mind, lol.

Until next timeeeee.

Crimes of Alice by Erin R. Bedford | Book Review

crimes of alicesFor some reason, I find myself drawn to books that are different versions of classic stories. Crimes of Alice is a more adult version of Alice in Wonderland with a slightly different twist. The current setting takes place after she has already grown up, and she visited Wonderland the first time when she was a child.

Goodreads Description – Every story has a beginning. This one started with a girl named Alice. Lewis was everything my mother wanted for me. Respectable. Wealthy. Not too handsome. Utterly perfect in every way. Then why did I run on our wedding day?
Returning to Wonderland wasn’t my intention, but now I’m finding out those things I thought were a dream were real. And they are so much more dangerous and delicious than I remembered. Lost in Wonderland with the queen out for my head the last thing I’m worried about is getting back to my fiance and the inhabitants are doing their best to tempt me to stay.

To be completely honest, I don’t think I would recommend this book to everyone. There is graphic sexual content, and it was weird. I can handle some word porn, and I even prefer it sometimes (no shame), but the sexuality in this book just seemed a little too weird. I’m no prude, by any means; however, this just took it a little too far for my liking.

With that being saiddddd, I didn’t hate this book.  I liked the premise of it, and it was definitely a unique telling to a classic story. I enjoyed reading most of it (graphic sexual scenes not included because I was extremely uncomfortable, lol). The author was able to describe the world in a way that I could visualize the scenery and the places. On the other hand, I didn’t feel much emotion while reading this book. My favorite kinds of books are the ones that give me all the feels, and this one fell short in that area. I didn’t get excited.

The characters were mediocre at best. It seems that so many characters were introduced to create a dynamic story line, but it didn’t portray that way. Even Alice was a little flat, and she is the main character. My opinion is that the author tried to include as many notable characters from the original Alice in Wonderland to make the story more nostalgic and exciting, but it was too much. She should have used less characters and made the more relatable and dynamic instead of cramming so many into one book. Quality is better than quantity in this case.

Despite this not being a book that I would consider a favorite, I liked it okay. It’s probably not one that I would try to read again because my head kind of hurt after I finished it. So many changes in scenery, character introductions, and drama. I mean how many times can this bitch get lost? Come on. It’s a little ridiculous that she has to get saved by someone else time after time after time. It gets old after a while.

Honestly, I would say read it if it sounds interesting to you, and you enjoy some graphic sex scenes in your novels. Otherwise, I’d say that you aren’t missing anything if you decide to skip this. I am aware that this is actually a prequel to a series, so I may check out the first book to see if it is any better. We’ll see. If you read this book, let me know what you thought about it or if you are interested in reading it!

Verity by Colleen Hoover | Book Review

41957126As I try to write this right now, I remain completely speechless. I literally just finished this book, and I have no words. Which is a problem since I am trying to complete a blog post about it…  This book is unlike any that I have read before, and it made me feel things that no book ever has. I felt panic. I felt terror. I felt the things that the main character felt. My heart was in a constant state of tachycardia while I was reading.  Okay.. Before I continue, let me say what this book is about:

Synopsis by Goodreads: Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died. Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Let me say this, I have never felt so disturbed and disgusted by a character in any book that I have ever read. Verity was repulsive when Lowen was reading about her through the manuscript. She was a psychopath in the truest form, and I can’t even describe how much I hated her. Lowen felt the same way, and she struggled throughout the book with whether or not to tell Jeremy the truth about the manuscript. Everything led up to the twist at the end that I did not see coming. I had theories and ideas about how it would end and what the final twist could be, but I was sooooo wrong.

The author was very creative when writing this book because it was told through Lowen’s point of view, and Verity’s point of view through the autobiography. What made it truly incredible is the different tones that presented during each perspective. The tone during Lowen’s perspective was lighter, but Verity’s tone was dark and disturbing. I felt like I was really in the mind of someone experiencing extreme psychopathy.

Unlike my other reviews, I am not going to include any spoilers in this because I feel like it would ruin much of the content of the book. I’m still speechless. I keep typing, but I can express how I feel about this book. My mind is truly blown by the talent and unique writing style that it took to create such an imbalance of perspective.

I would describe this book as a true psychological thriller that embraces the mind of a psychopath. I recommend this book to anyone, and I BEG you all to read this. I promise that it will make you feel something. You may feel terror, disgust, anger, or heartbreak. You may feel one thing or, like me, you may feel everything. I really feel like I should probably go to therapy after reading this book because of how twisted and psychotic it is. When I wasn’t reading this book, I was thinking about reading it. I was coming up with theories and potential plot twists about how this book might end. It was consuming me to the point that I stayed up until 2 AM when I had to go to work the next morning. I didn’t even finish it then though. I could have, but I really needed sleep at that point.

Check it out. That’s all I can say. Please read it, and then come back and tell me what you thought. If you read it and review it, please tag me because I would love to see what everyone thinks about it.

Beauty Wish List | January 2019

2018 was a very mediocre year for me when it came to trying out new makeup. I intend to change that for this year. I have already seen posts for new launches that I am really excited to try this year, but there are also products that have been released for a while that I really want to finally try.  On the other side of things, there are new releases that are going to be launched this year, and I’m not really interested in for one reason or another, and I plan out posting about those soon. I was initially going to talk about them all in one post, but I felt like that would be way too long. 🙂

Products I Want to Try

img_0448Natasha Denona Lila Palette

This palette will forever be on my wish list. I love purples and pinks, and this palette speaks to me. Check out that price though. I cannot bring myself to spend that much money on a palette unless I know I will love it. Maybe not even then. Maybe 2019 will be the year that I finally get the chance to try this one out. Natasha Denona has released a mini version of this one that has five shades in it for $25, so I may try that one first. If I like that one well enough I may splurge on the full size. But even for 5 shades for $25, that is still a little pricey. Basically, it breaks down to $5 per eye shadow. There are several other palettes from this brand, but this is the only one that I would try. From the looks of it, it has a nice mixture of warm and cool tones, and the purple and pink are just calling my name.

img_0447.jpgMorphe Fluidity Foundation

I feel like this new foundation has already broken the internet, and it hasn’t even official launched yet. I feel like in the YouTube beauty community, Morphe always has drama attached to its name. Honestly, I don’t really care about that, and I am excited to try this foundation. From what I’ve seen so far, it is reallllyyyyyy full coverage. My face has a lot of scarring and acne spots that I need to cover, so I usually gravitate to full coverage foundations. I have normal skin – not dry or oily, so this one may work for me. I don’t know. I will probably buy this one and the concealer when it launches and try it out. I may post a future review on it after I try it, so you guys can see how it worked for me and my skin type. By the way, this is going to be released with 60 shades. That is pretty bad ass. I feel like I have the hardest time finding foundations. Even though I have a lighter skin tone, I have a weird undertone. It’s neutral, but it doesn’t really lean cool or warm. If I have too warm of a foundation, I looked yellow af. I might have liver disease or something. If I wear a foundation that is too cool, then I look like I have a very unflattering sunburn. I don’t remember where I heard it, but someone said this foundation would have 12 shades in each tone and have varying undertones. This is going to be released for $18.

img_0454Hourglass Vanish Liquid Foundation

I didn’t get to try the Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick, but I heard that it was really good. I should have included that one on my list, but I figured since this one is new I’d talk about it instead. On Trendmood’s instagram, there isn’t a release date for this one yet; however, it claims that it will be full coverage. I already feel like 2019 will be the year of new foundations. I have already ordered 2 this year that I have been wanting to try, so what’s 2 more, right? This foundation is going to be released with 32, so not as much as the Morphe foundations. I hope that it has a good variety of shades and undertones. Especially, for the price. Well, I can’t say that for sure because the price hasn’t been posted yet, but it’s Hourglass. It’s not going to be cheap.

Nars Wanted Cheek Palette – Color I

I really want to try this one. I haven’t really tried anything from Nars, except their long-wear foundation. This is the Color I Wanted Blush Palette, so it has the lighter tones. The Color II Palette has deeper shades for deeper skin tones. I am very picky when it comes to blush because I feel that (because of my weird ass undertone) they can look weird on me if I’m not careful. I’v heard really good things about Nars blushes, so I really want to try this one. For $59, that is a little bit steep. Howeverrrrrrrr, I want justify it by saying that I’m only paying a little less than $10 for each blush. That makes it sound a little better, right? I’m pretty sure I’m the queen of justification. 😀 BTW, this is limited edition, and I don’t know how long it has been out. Hopefully, I can get it before it’s gone.

img_0451 Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette – Smokey

The last thing that I would like to try is the Huda Beauty Obsessions Palette in Smokey. I got the Desert Dusk Palette for Christmas last year, and I really like that palette. Hopefully, if I do decide to get this one the formula is the same. Lately, I’ve been feeling darker, smokier looks.  I think this palette could give me some super sultry, grungy looks which I’ve been into. The silver and black in this palette are what I most love about it. I know what you’re thinking…. But, Sam, you can get a black and silver in almost every palette. So what, STFU. I want this one. Why? Because it has 9 shades for $27, and I already know I like this brand’s eye shadow formula. Actually, I haven’t tried any of the Obsession palettes, and there are quite a few that I am interested in. So, if I like this one, I will probably buy the other one’s I like too.

So, I had a lot of other products on my list, but I narrowed it down to my top 5. I don’t do that new year’s resolution bullshit because I can never stick to it; however, I feel like I can make a goal to try more makeup this year and grow my collection just a little. There’s not harm there. Maybe to my wallet… and my boyfriend’s sanity. Worth the sacrifice, though, in my opinion. If you have tried these products or are excited to check any of them out, let me know your thoughts and opinions.

Au Revoir!

Stitch Fix | December #2

Stitch Fix is a $20 curated clothing subscription box that you can receive every couple weeks, monthly, or every other month. Your stylist will specifically choose items for you based on your style quiz, social media, and feedback. You pay the $20 for the box, and the styling fee will be paid towards whatever you decide to keep. What you don’t want to keep, you can just send back in the envelope they provide in the box. Spoiler Alert: This was one of the more underwhelming Stitch Fix boxes that I have received; however, my love for stitch fix remains strong. I think I just had a different stylist this month, and she doesn’t know my style that well yet.

My first impression of these when I saw that I was getting them on the website was a Leggingshugeee no thanks. I really only wear leggings around the house since I can’t wear them to work, and I didn’t think I would like them at all. Guess what…. I didn’t like them when I tried them on. They were too loose in my legs, and they weren’t very comfortable. They were cute, but I would never wear them because they just didn’t fit right. Leggings are supposed to love my curves and hug them ever so sweetly, and these were just a bulky gross mess. | ANDREW MARC PERFORMANCE Fiona Foil Printed Legging $64

Pink shirt

I really considered keeping this shirt, because I really liked the detail and the color of it. I thought it would be something cute and comfortable that I can wear to work. Once I tried it on, however, it looked okay. It wasn’t long enough, though. I’ve said it once, and I know I’ll say it a billion times more that I loved my shirt long. If this shirt was just a little bit longer, I probably would have kept it. I couldn’t justify keeping it if I knew I wouldn’t wear it that much. It is really cute though. | EMORY PARK Dulcette Ruched Detail Knit Top $34

purseNope. No. Next. This purse is defnitely not my style, and I knew I would never, ever use it. The only thing that I did like about it was that it was a cross body, and I have been into those lately. This one is just gross though. Sorry, Ariel, I know you really liked it lol. I didn’t like the color of it, and I just couldn’t see myself ever using it. Plus, for the price it was definitely not worth it for me. So, as I said, NEXT!

URBAN EXPRESSIONS Aida Crossbody $58

sweaterI really like this sweater, so I think I will keep this one. The detailing on the arms are really cute and make this more than a boring sweater. The detailing is a criss crossed braided pattern, and it looks really cute. The sweater is comfortable, but I do wish that it was a little softer. In the picture it looks like a hunter/ olive green, but IRL this sweater is brown. Even on the description card that came in the box, this is described as olive. But, it is not. It is brown. I still like it though, and I am keeping it. 🙂

SKIES ARE BLUE Medea Cut Out Sleeve Cotton Pullover $68

flannerThis is the last item in my box, and it was one that I specifically requested (kind of). When I sent the note to my stylist before my box was curated, then only thing I wrote was FLANNEL!!!!!!! <— just like that. She delivered, and I loved it. The material on this is so soft, and I can wear it buttoned or unbuttoned. Cuffed or long sleeved. I love Flannel, and I don’t think you can ever go wrong with it. I don’t have any that have this pattern, so I’m keeping this one. It’s great, and I think that it will look really nice with some of the shirts that I had kept in previous boxes.  | TINSEL Hattie Two Pocket Button Down Top $38

I am thinking of doing my future reviews with actual pictures of me trying on the clothes, so you can see what they look like on. Let me know if that would be something you would be interested in for my upcoming reviews or if you would just like to see the pictures of the items.. or both. If you are interested in trying stitch fix, I will leave my referral link at the bottom, so you can check it out!
